BACKPACKERS TRIP TO KURUMA & MURCHISON FALLS
Day 1. Depart Backpackers Hostel at 8am and drive to Kuruma Falls at the eastern end of Murchison Falls National Park. Here we walk down to Karuma Falls which is a fantastic experience. After exploring the falls a pinic lunch of salad rolls with chicken or ham, cheese and lettuce and a hot cup of tea or coffee will be served before heading of to our lodge just outside the northern boundry of the park. Oranges and other fruits will also be available.
Accommodation will be in round grass thatched bandas or tents. The camp is set in a beautiful area just across a small stream from the National Park and it is common to see wild animals such as Uganda cob, bufflo, giraffe come down to graze or drink. Evening meal will be served at about 6.30pm and will consist of a main course plus desert.
Day 2. Get up at 6am & have breakfast cornflakes or weetbix or fruit salad with yogurt plus scrambled eggs bacon and toast with tea or coffee. Everybody must be on time as it is best to start the game drive early so as to get the best chance of seeing wildlife.
The giraffe are a really spectacular site as you travel across the park towards Lake Albert where you will see hundreds of hippos lazing in the waters. We often find a group of lions lying around after a long night hunting. During the game drive at about 10.30am we have an early lunch near the lakeside with views across to Nebbi district and the Congo. The game drive normally finishes at about 12.30pm when we drop the ranger at the ferry crossing and then drive up to the Parra Lodge where you can buy a soda or beer and relax near their beautiful pool. At around 1.30 pm we drive to the ferry crossing and wait for the boat up to the falls.
At 2pm we get on the boat for the trip up the river where you are sure to see many hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, bush pigs, and monkeys. Often there is an elephant standing on the bank swinging it's trunck or eating water reeds while hippos play and splash in the water, or a croc walks slowly down to the water. The boat then returns to the ferry crossing and we drive back to our camp, viewing wildlife along the way.
Day 3. Get up at 6.15am and have breakfast then at 8am head off through Karuma to see the rhinos before traveling back to Kampala.
Cost includes all meals, transport, park entrance for two days, game drive, boat trip, and walk up the path next to the falls and nature walk in Pabidi Forest to trek the chimpanzee. Students who qualify for a park discount will have that discount refunded.
